THE BUBBLE People who leave town just don't seem to recall anything strange about their time there. All of the ghosts, mysteries, and oddities are wiped clean from their mind. This might be the reason why so many feel compelled to return to a place they remember so fondly. DOPPELGANGERS when elderly mrs. kowalski, a kindly but doddering resident went to the papers with a story about her husband's doppelganger, most people reacted to the headline with varying degrees of pity and disbelief. others, however, finally felt vindicated in coming forward with their own accounts. many people have reported instances of sharing a conversation with a loved one, only for them to have no recollection of said conversation ever taking place. others have stories about co-workers appearing in two places at once, of leaving a meeting with their boss for a bathroom break, only to find said boss standing at a urinal. one man reported having a beer with a friend in his backyard, only for said company to call him from work to apologize for running late. those who have claimed to see their own double have turned up dead shortly thereafter. ELDERWOOD PARK STAIRS one of the stranger phenomena, numerous staircases have appeared in elderwood park that are not remnants of a forgotten structure, but look as though they were snipped out of someone's house and relocated to the woods. they are always clean and free of debris, as if they were only just installed, and they vary in height and design. park staff advise the public to stay away from them, but are tight-lipped on the reasons why; rumor has it that bad things happen to those who dare to climb them, and under the threat of death, few are bold enough to risk it. nobody has ever been able to locate the same staircase twice.
THE HITCHER there are plenty of deaths associated with this stretch of road, but none of them unique to the old man with his scraggly beard and a plaid shirt; they're all typical of inclement weather conditions and driver error. nobody knows the origins of this man -- only that he sometimes appears on the side of the road between the hours of 12-3 a.m. and will somehow always end up ahead of you no matter how fast you're driving. you won't see him pass; you'll only see him staring judgmentally at you from the next stop sign with a thumb hooked aggressively in the direction you're driving. THE JILTED LOVER victoria edelson was in love with a young man. the dalliance the two shared was brief, but she was convinced she would spend the rest of her life with him. when she found the young man had fallen in love with another woman and intended to marry, she went mad and killed the man on the evening of the new couples' engagement party leaving the other woman to find him murdered with a note in his blood on the wall that said "you'll never have him". the story goes that she continues to stalk newly engaged couples, but no one has come to harm yet... or have they? MEAT MONSTER witnesses have described this being as an almagamation of raw meat and hair, as if it was stitched together with chunks of roadkill. it possesses human hands and cloven hooves for feet, and is said to be able to perfectly mimic noises and voices. most sightings have occurred in the woods, but there have been a handful of reports within the town, as well. THE MOON MAN appearing in dreams of various residents, the Moon Man appears as a skeletal, faceless, ten foot tall humanoid with exaggerated limbs and paper-white skin that seems to glow in the moonlight. It hides behind trees and rock formations, and seems particularly fixated on rotted out tree stumps. When asked where it's from, the figure points to the sky. When asked why it's in the forest, it points to those stumps and informs the dreamer "We have to keep them in there." Anyone who's had a vivid dream of the Moon Man insists that his unsettling appearance belies a calming demeanor. In a forest full of malicious Shadow People, the Moon Man is a beacon of sorts. SHADOW PEOPLE described as patches of shadow in the shape a living, humanoid figure, these entities have been spotted everywhere from elderwood national park to people's homes. they've even been captured in photographs, but only certain people claim to be able to see them in the images. they're widely thought to be malicious in nature and highly intelligent, capable of communicating telepathically with human beings. some even believe they're capable of possessing people. TOUCHDOWN JESUS less of a spooky sighting, more of a high school rite of passage. it's considered good luck for players to climb into the outstretched arms of a local cemetery statue as if the son of god is carrying them bridal style toward victory. this is a very popular photo-op. what's weird is that some people are convinced the statue's eyes are open while others think they're closed, and others still are convinced it changes on any given day. THE FUZZY MAN Fuzzy as in blurry, not hairy. this entity has only been reported by children who have gone missing and were later recovered. they claim the 'fuzzy man' took care of them while they were in his possession, and always return unscathed and oddly unaffected by the experience. in the hours after they're discovered, they appear dazed and disoriented, almost as though they were drugged, and eventually lose all recollection of the incident. one little girl stated that the man let her go because she 'wasn't the right one'. she was either unable or unwilling to elaborate on this. THE FACELESS at first glance these creatures seem like typical humans, often taking on appearances similar to someone you know. it isn't until you get close enough you realize they have no faces, their features instead completely smooth like unformed clay. the longer you stare the closer they'll get, you'll want to scream, but find yourself unable to do so. before your very eyes their faces will begin to take shape, their features mimicking your own unless you run. no one knows for sure what happens if they manage to finish your face before you get away. |
